Did you know on average a teacher spends 1.5 hours a day grading? This is according to survey that was sent to more than 20,000 public school teachers. It is no wonder that most Americans including teachers prefer standardized testing today. The grading problem continues to take a significant amount of time and not all grading work can be automated. A computer just cannot do what a human can when it comes to grading. But those benefits come at a cost. Humans have biases, fatigue easily, and relatively take much more time than a computer. If teachers could effectively outsource grading to subject matter experts, they could spend more time preparing lesson plans and improving their curriculum. If that grading could be easily outsourced at a low cost, assessments could be more formative and given throughout the learning process rather than one exam at the end of unit/course (Summative).
Grading Guru is a tool that permits instructors to outsource grading to other instructors around the globe. Gurus, subject matter experts, can get paid in tokens to grade student work.
How does it work?
An instructor creates a new Grade Task by submitting the following:
- Grading Rubric – Rubric is the answer/solution key or the guide used for assessment
- Student Work – Student work to be graded (scanned pdfs)
- Sample Graded Work – Student work already graded that is used for an example
- GURU Tokens – Amount of tokens used as payment for the graded work
Gurus can start the grade task and submit the graded work. They get paid for their work in GURU tokens.
The GURU token is a token that will be deployed on the popular Ethereum blockchain.
Initially token payments will be the only aspect deployed on the block chain but there are plans to use smart contracts for the enforcement of payments when a person has completed the task.
